SRS Data: India’s Life Expectancy

Recently (SRS) sample registration system has released the data of Indian's Life's expectancy report for the period of 2015-19. Based on the raw data, I have performed data transformation and prepared the following Insightful results presenting it in the tableau dashboard.

The Life Expectancy At Birth

Definition : The average number of years that a newborn could expect to live if he or she were to pass through life subject to the age-specific mortality rates of a given period.

1. Each State, By Gender Life Expectancy Comparison B/W Urban and Rural.

The following visualization provides the overview of each state by gender life expectancy and its show the number of years in difference from Urban or Rural life expectancy.

How to read this data?

When you hover on each bar, it provides the following information. For ex:

As shown in the below screen shot for the state : Himachal Pradesh the male life expectancy is 69.9. And it difference 5+ Years from Urban areas and -0.5 to rural areas. You can compare this for each states by switching the Urban and Rural filter.

2. Life Expectancy at Birth for India, 1970-75 to 2015-19.

The Life Expectancy at birth for the country has undergone a significant change from 49.7 yrs in 1970-75 to 69.7 in 2015-2019. Registering an Increase ▲ of 20 years In Last 4 Decades.

3. Expectation Of Life At Selected Ages.

The estimate at birth varies from 65.3 years in Chhattisgarh to 75.9 years in NCT of Delhi during 2015-19. NCT of Delhi has recorded highest expectation of life for age till 50 years, while Punjab has the highest life expectancy for ages between 70 to 80 years. At the age of 85+ years, Uttarakhand scores the highest life expectancy. The minimum expectancy of life is in Chhattisgarh till age 75 years, beyond which Bihar has the lowest life expectancy.
